* Duration...3 to 6 hours.

* Impacts...The combination of strong winds and low humidity can cause fire to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them.

* WHAT...Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 45 to 55 mph. Wind prone areas along Highway 395 may gust up to 65 mph with ridgetops gusting over 80 mph at times.

* WHERE...Mono County.

* WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 2 AM PDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Strong crosswinds will create difficult driving conditions for high profile vehicles along Highway 395. Boating conditions will be hazardous due to rough waters on area lakes, including Mono Lake, Bridgeport Reservoir, Topaz Lake, and Crowley Lake. Winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture and trash cans before winds increase which could blow these items away. The best thing to do is prepare ahead of time by making sure you have extra food and water on hand, flashlights with spare batteries and/or candles in the event of a power outage.

Check lake conditions before heading out and be prepared for a sudden increase in winds and wave heights. Consider postponing boating activities on the lake until a day with less wind. close
